Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers are artistically designed custom made, thin shells of porcelain that are bonded on to teeth to improve esthetics. Porcelain veneers can create straight, healthy looking teeth without the use of orthodontics, can close spaces between teeth and can improve the overall appearance of the dentition. The procedure usually takes 2 visits. During the first visit the dentist removes a small amount of enamel (the outermost layer of the tooth), takes an impression and fabricates temporary veneers for the patient to wear for about two weeks while the laboratory technician artistically creates the veneers. At the second appointment your veneers are bonded to your teeth enhancing your smile.

Invisalign

Invisalign® is a revolutionary method to help you obtain even, straight teeth without metal braces. Virtually undetectable, Invisalign® aligners are made of strong, clear plastic that gradually guides your teeth into perfect alignment. Unlike metal braces, they have no wires or brackets which can cause irritation to your lips or gums. We work with skilled specialists who are experts in this procedure and will be happy to provide you with a referral if you are interested in this procedure. During your first evaluation, the specialist will help you determine if Invisalign® is a good option for you. They will then design a treatment plan and take impressions of your teeth, from which Invisalign® will develop accurate, personalized tooth-straightening devices, called aligners (similar to retainers). Aligners slide directly over your teeth and are replaced around every two weeks as your teeth shift into place. Depending on your case, you will wear them full-time (except when eating or performing dental hygiene) for 12 to 24 months—no longer than you would wear traditional metal braces—and see the specialist about every six weeks for check-ups.

Tooth Whitening

As we age, our teeth lose the brilliant whiteness that implies good dental health and youth. The unsightly stains associated with tobacco, dark liquids, and other factors can leave us feeling less-than-confident about our smiles. Fortunately, there is a simple solution to this dental problem: cosmetic tooth whitening. Our practice provides convenient, take-home tooth-whitening programs and in-office ZOOM! tooth whitening to our patients.

In-Office Tooth Whitening

ZOOM! Professional tooth whitening System

The ZOOM! chairside whitening system is a scientifically advanced, safe and effective, tooth whitening procedure. Your teeth will become dramatically whiter in just over an hour! It is an ideal procedure for anyone looking for immediate results. The convenience of ZOOM! In comparison to days of wearing trays or strips makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual.

Procedure

The procedure begins with a short preparation to cover your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. The dentist then applies the ZOOM! whitening gel, which is designed to be used with a specially designed light. The ZOOM! light and gel work together to gently penetrate your teeth, breaking up stains and discoloration.

The complete procedure takes just over an hour. Following the preparation period, there are three cycles of 15 minutes each, for a total of 45 minutes, to complete the procedure.

Take-home Tooth Whitening

These kits contain customized bleaching trays that are made from models of your teeth and whitening gel containing carbamide peroxide. A small amount of the gel is placed into the trays and the patient then wears the trays for a prescribed amount of time each day until their teeth have reached the desired shade (usually about 2 weeks).

FAQ’s

Is whitening safe?

Yes. Research and clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth under the supervision of a dentist is safe. It is not recommended for children and pregnant or lactating women.

How long do the results last?

To keep your teeth looking their best, we recommend brushing and flossing daily, along with regular professional cleaning. At home bleaching trays can be made for occasional touch ups to keep your teeth their brightest. It should be noted that tooth whitening treatments will not change the color of dental materials used for bonding, veneers, and crowns.

How does the ZOOM! in office system work?

Hydrogen peroxide is the active ingredient in the whitening gel. As the hydrogen peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the layers of the tooth structure (enamel and dentin) and bleaches the colored substances. The ZOOM! Light aids in activating the hydrogen peroxide and increases the effectiveness of the whitening gel.

Are there any side effects?

Sensitivity during and/or after treatment may occur with some patients. The ZOOM! light generates minimal heat which may be the source of discomfort. Minor tingling sensation may be experienced after the procedure which usually lasts about one day. Using sensitive toothpaste (with potassium nitrate) for 2 weeks before your ZOOM whitening appointment should help reduce sensitivity.

All-Porcelain Crowns

Compared to older porcelain fused to metal crowns, all-porcelain crowns have a natural appearance in terms of color and contour. When done properly, crowns are extremely difficult to distinguish from natural teeth. With all-porcelain crowns, no dark lines are apparent at the gum line.

Our office commonly replaces unsightly crowns with beautiful new porcelain crowns.
There are different kinds of porcelain crowns. Your Dentist will decide which is right for you depending on the color of your teeth.

Tooth Colored Fillings

In the past, cavities could only be treated with unsightly metal fillings (silver colored). These fillings, especially when close to the front of the mouth, are highly noticeable and unaesthetic. Often, these fillings cause discoloration of the natural tooth structure. Modern dentistry has increasingly turned to composite resin restorations (tooth colored fillings) as a strong, safe and more natural looking alternative. Composite materials restore form and function by utilizing a moldable tooth colored plastic material that is hardened with an intense visible light to restore the tooth.

Porcelain and Gold Inlays/Onlays

When a significant amount of tooth structure is lost in a back tooth, due to a cavity or fracture, a strong, precisely contoured restoration may be required. These restorations are called inlays and onlays (depending on what surfaces of the tooth are being restored). Inlays and onlays are custom-made restorations that are fabricated by a dental laboratory technician; therefore, these restorations require two appointments. Once the restoration has been fabricated at the laboratory it is bonded or cemented into place to restore the tooth to health and function.
